first day of the school year

And so it arrives, as I knew it must. Today is the first day of the new school year. Summer is over. The learning begins. My kids will be out the door and on their way back to their teachers and friends.

The first day of school is exciting and bittersweet for me this year. Lots of growing up going on around my house. Lots of changes in store for them and for us.

But, one day at a time. Graduation isn't here tomorrow....it is months away.

So, happy first day to all the teachers, the kids and the parents. Make it a great year!

Fortunately, I don't go back for a week!
Your kids sure start early. Do they have a long winter or long spring break to compensate?

Hey Lisa, they finish before Memorial Day...so they start very early. We also get a long Fall break.

That evens it out then. The district where I live (not the one where I teach) begins almost as early as your kids, but they take a longer winter and longer spring break than our district does.
Fall break in Utah revolves around the deer hunt. In fact, when I was a kid, it wasn't called "autumn break." It was actually called "deer hunt," and we got two days off school for it.
