The oldest, plus her friend, are home and enjoying spring break week. It is the final week for us as the middle child has went back to school and the youngest has now been back for two weeks. We are speeding towards April and then the girls will be home the beginning of May for the summer.
I had a lovely day off from work on Friday. Enjoyed a nice lunch with a friend and did some things around the house. Perfect. The weekend was great. Really nice day on Saturday for strolling around the Square and doing a little shopping. Cooled off a bit yesterday, but still sunny and bright.
We've been watching a bit of the basketball tournament and I'm anxious to see my bracket once I get to work. I coordinated the brackets last year, but one of the IT guys did it this year and it is all online. I forgot to print a copy or bring home the login info to check it, so I'm not quite sure how I'm doing!
Should be a fairly quiet work week. I think the girls will come for lunch one day and then they are heading back towards campus on Friday with a detour to visit the middle one.
Happy Monday!
Random thoughts on my writing journey, what I'm reading, my family, and my community. All before that first cup of coffee.

waiting game
Now that my long awaited spring break is over it is time to start the waiting game for the end of the school year. Wow. The school year is ending? It seriously seems like we just started.
As busy as the next month is going to be, I know that the oldest will be home from school in what will feel like a week. The middle one will be getting ready to graduate as will the youngest. We have so many events coming up that my calendar needs extra space just to note all the stuff happening.
I had a wonderful 5 days off. Really couldn't ask for anything better. I was able to visit with friends, enjoy some down time with my hubby and kids, and move through the days at a much slower pace. Perfect. I had a wonderful time with the oldest and we were able to get her shopping done for the 2013 Rush at her sorority and not break the bank! Got some great bargains.
While I normally dread Mondays, I'm not feeling too bad about this one. Time to get back into the routine.
Here is a goofy picture we took yesterday of our attempt at the awkward family photo. Happy Easter Monday. Or, as they call it up north where we are from, Dyngus Day!

bracketology
I love watching the Big Dance. Tournament time is probably my favorite sporting event 'season' of the year, except when my girls were playing soccer.
Our work environment is pretty laid back, but sometimes they just need a nudge to have a bit more fun at the office. So, I took it upon myself to print off 6 brackets and told the other 5 folks in our department (communications/IT) that they needed to pick their teams. It was ON!
Of course, the IT guy had to run the 'numbers' before he gave me his sheet. I just laughed and told him I went by pure gut instinct. A perfect illustration of why he programs computers and I post silly stuff on social media to promote our association.
I will have to update our sheets this morning when I get to work. And let everyone know how they are doing so far. This should make for a fun couple of weeks. My boss told us we should all put in $5 and the winner has to use the money to defray the cost of all of us going out to lunch. They loved that idea. We do love to eat there!
Okay, off to check scores and see what is what. In other news, I talked with the oldest yesterday and she has quite the shopping list for us to procure while she is home. I guess the joys of sorority rush continue to impact my checkbook as she needs certain things for August that she currently doesn't own. Thank goodness it is all stuff that is pretty practical and very usable. No feather boas or crazy colors. Tan wedges. No prob. Black shorts. No prob. We can do this.
However, we will NOT be taking the younger daughter with us. She always manages to con me into buying stuff for her when we are shopping for her sister. I know, I know, I'm a push over. But, she always looks so darn cute...and she always puts up a good argument for why she has to have that dress, shirt, skirt, shoes, shorts, lipstick, etc....
Basketball and sorority rush. It is going to be an interesting spring break!

Off to see Rango and other lovely distractions
The oldest and I had the pleasure of spending some quality time at the license branch yesterday so she could obtain her next driver's license. Everything is done by degrees now. I'm not so sure this is about safety, seems to be more about revenue and over reaching laws. But, regardless of why kids need multiple licenses before they reach age 21, she obtained her new one in only two hours.
We arrived home to find hubby here having lunch and offering to take us all to the movies. I ate some lunch, took a pain pill, waited for it to kick in a bit and away we went. The movie was "Rango." We all loved it. Some great one liners, good animation, interesting story line, but most definitely not for the younger kid set. More of a tween and teen cartoon with lots of fun stuff thrown in for the parents. The "Spirit of the West" is alive in well in all of us. After the movie we used a gift certificate for a local restaurant and treated ourselves to a dinner out.
That was our big spring break for the year. Up next is yard work. Hubby informed the kids of their duties and that I will be serving as foreman for the annual clean up. He checked into borrowing a pickup truck so we can go and get mulch at the local place and save some money.
All in all, some lovely distractions to keep us all occupied and happy.
