No rain pounding the roof this morning! Yeah! And with the way the wind was blowing last night, maybe the stuff has moved east.
I have one chapter to go with Harry Dresden. He is off the coast of Chicago, out in Lake Michigan, with the Summer Knight and they've got to figure out how to stop crazy Lady Winter, Maeve, from destroying the world...or at least the Midwest.
Lunch out with the gang from work today. And the weekend is almost here!!
Friday, it is good to see you again.
Random thoughts on my writing journey, what I'm reading, my family, and my community. All before that first cup of coffee.

frantic friday
The first whirlwind has departed the house. Yikes! Oops...just got stopped again...guess they are stuck in the driveway.
Laurel and Hardy have nothing on us this morning, and on that note...
Enjoy the weekend.
Happy Halloween.
Lots of tricks here this morning and not so many treats!

better late than never
The doctor visit yesterday confirmed what I suspected: bad case of bacterial bronchitis. Lovely. The medicine is working its magic, but not without side effects. Lovely.
So, I'm at home yet again today and reading a book, watching TV and playing games on the internet.
Hope to be my old self come Monday and able to get out and do what needs doing.

friday
And so we get ready to enter the final week of summer vacation. Cue tears and gnashing of teeth. Summer reading winds down at the Library. The big box retailers are ready for the mad dash to get school supplies. The kids are planning a few last minute fun things to do while they can. I'm making a list of things I have to do once they return to classes.
But first, we are going to enjoy Friday and all it has in store for us.

friday
I found a few books at the library yesterday before I helped to stock the bookstore. I grabbed two YA paranormal books and then found the latest Lee Child novel featuring the amazing Jack Reacher. Yeah!! I have things to read over the weekend.
Today and tomorrow is the garage sale the girls are holding. I hope they manage to make enough money to fill their car at least once. I also hope the rain holds off until after they are done for today. I want the rain, but not until 1:00, please.
Enjoy the weekend.

ready, set, summer
My kids are officially on summer break. It was a bittersweet moment yesterday as the youngest realized it was his last day of elementary school. That chapter is now closed and a brand new one is set to begin. The familiar faces, the well traveled hallways, the comforting daily routine will be replaced with a lot of UNKNOWN. Scary and exciting all at the same time.
Not sure when it will feel like summer. The oldest and I agreed that it feels like a long weekend right now. Soccer tryouts for the high school are Monday and Tuesday and then the State league tourney is next weekend. Maybe after all of that is over, it will feel like summer.
In the meantime, I have several books to read. I'm reading "The Sugar Queen" right now and then will dive into a borrowed copy of "The Help." Going to follow that up with a urban fantasy I nabbed yesterday while I volunteered at the bookstore.
Enjoy the weekend.

week end
I hate it when I wake up tired. Seems that since we changed the clocks a while back, that is most assuredly the case for me many mornings.
Today I have a Friends meeting. Time for us to start gearing up for our BIG Spring Book Sale. This is always such a great time to see avid readers scooping up major bargains. Plus, I get to hang out with some of my favorite people for a few days straight. And, we know how to eat too...lunch is always a delight.
Middle kid's team won their first state league qualifying game last night. She started both halves, yeah!! Played well, made some good plays and came home with lots of mud and smiles.
Oldest kid gets back to work this weekend as the rec soccer season starts and she has three games to referee.
Youngest kid gets to hang with me and clean house!
Hope your weekend is a good one!

fabulous friday
For a school week that was only four days instead of five due to the ice storm, it sure has been a long week.
The youngest kid brought home the gold from last night's science fair. He earned a first place medal in the Physical Science category for his experiment with probability. Hubby and I were so happy for him and he was thrilled. His medal trumps the medals the older two kids earned. Guess hubby is getting better at helping put together a medal earning project as the oldest earned a third place ribbon and the middle kid earned a second place ribbon. Practice makes perfect. Now the project goes off to the county fair.
I hauled the oldest kid off to the family doc yesterday as her ankle just wasn't improving quick enough to suit me. The doctor agreed and today she sees an orthopedic doc. X-rays showed that while the ankle does not have a fracture of any sort, it does appear upon manipulation of the joint that she has some ligament or tendon damage....just how serious is the issue. She has no pain walking or even moving the foot or joint. The doctor said it will most likely just require some physical therapy and resting it, but wanted an expert opinion. My guess is no soccer for 6 weeks.
Middle kid is going to see a student written high school play tonight with a friend. Hubby and I have a 'date' for a church function/fundraiser tomorrow night.
Not sure what else is in store for the weekend, but I'm hoping it doesn't include any precipitation. Happy Weekend!

ready, set, friday
Stopped in Target yesterday to pick up one of the youngest's Christmas gifts. Going to take the plunge into technology and get the kid the cheap iPod. Darn, the thing is as small as a thumb drive for a computer. Tiny. Wish it had a book size carrying case with a transmitter to notify me on my cell phone of its location. I fear, already, that it will be lost in the hurricane that is his room, within a few days of it being unwrapped.
I'm slowly making progress and checking off items on the Christmas list. I'd love for this Christmas to be one of those where the boxes are big, plentiful and piled knee deep and half way across the room. Not going to happen. The older they get, the smaller the gifts become! Not to mention they get increasingly more expensive.
I do need to make a Costco run to pick up the middle kids contacts and drop off her glasses for new lenses. Will get a few more gifts while I am there for the Wii and perhaps a leather purse for one of the girls. Good prices and I have coupons!
Finished the Dan Brown book. Now I can say I've read it and we can move on from there. All the talk right now is about the New Moon movie. The oldest is threatening to clock anyone who swoons over it as they go on and on and on about the storyline. The middle one just wants to see the actor playing the werewolf, sans shirt, of course. We all agree the actors from Vampire Diaries are WAY better looking and as one said in a clip last night...."I'm glad I don't get old, I like being the eternal stud." We all laughed and said, yep, got that right buddy!
So, with that, we are ready for the weekend.

It is Friday. Just had the dog retrieve the paper for me and discovered it is really warm outside, the wind is howling and I think it is fixing to get ugly.
