let the internship begin

She's a bit nervous. Heck, I'm  nervous for her! The oldest begins her internship today. No rest for that girl. She was home Friday afternoon after an 8:00 a.m. final in Calculus and now she is off to work. Well, not quite yet as she will leave later this morning. She will be departing each morning before I have to leave for work and she will be home after me.

It was an interesting weekend. The middle daughter had her birthday gathering on Friday night. The kids ate large quantities of fried chicken from Gus's, went bowling, and then came back for cake and ice cream. It seemed they all had a good time. Saturday the hubby and I made the major Costco restock the pantry shopping trip. Sunday I took the oldest to buy a few new pairs of 'work' pants and three new tops. She has more dresses than you can shake a stick at, but not all are work appropriate, and pants are going to be more comfortable if she goes to any job sites with any of the engineers.

Next weekend is PROM and baccalaureate and Mother's Day!

It is going to be a crazy, crazy summer. And today is Monday. Let's go.

the hazy and not so lazy days of summer

Summer is underway. The oldest departed for the university last night in order to attend registration/orientation today and tomorrow. Wow. Hubby is there with her as I didn't have enough PTO earned to take time off for this trip.

In other exciting news, we purchased new kitchen appliances yesterday. After looking, comparing, chatting, reviewing for days, we took the plunge. It should be interesting as all of it will be delivered just a few days before the oldest's graduation party.

I've been reading "The Crown" by Nancy Bilyeau. Set during Henry VIII's reign, this novel features a backdrop of the dissolution of the convents and monasteries, but has several mysteries for novice Dominican nun, Joanna Stafford to solve including why King Athelstan's missing crown is coveted by the powers at be.

Short week! Yippee!! I also start my summer hours today and will arrive a half hour early so I can leave earlier in the afternoon.

Summer Reading has started at the library and it seems the kickoff event went well. Of course, nothing brings them out like free food and I guess the free TCBY did the trick.  The current Friends president got the emailed newsletter out and did a wonderful job on it. Whew. I can let that responsibility go with no reservations or regrets now.

Although the literacy committee met last week, I haven't heard a report on what they decided at the meeting. Not sure what is up with that, but I'm almost afraid to email and ask. Ignorance is bliss? Might just be true in this case.

a decent clip

Two days of work and then I get to enjoy my weekend. I'm loving the whole three day off thing. The job is still going well, interesting new things to learn almost every day. I spent most of yesterday coding the text for another addition to the online learning library. Today I get to pack things for a conference. Never a dull moment.

I'm reading the latest Kate Collins cozy mystery novel. This one, "Dirty Rotten Tendrils" is just as cute and engaging as her other titles in this series.

The girls continue to volunteer at church. The boy is my at home helper this week. I'm loving the slower pace that comes with being between soccer seasons.

Everything is moving along at a decent clip. Summer is good.

and so it goes

We had a good weekend even though the soccer games didn't go as well as we'd hoped. No championship game appearances for either of the girls' teams, but they played hard and learned a lot.  It was nice to be at the events as a family and we enjoyed spending the weekend and Memorial Day together.

We celebrated my hubby's birthday yesterday in fine style. Good food, some swimming, some croquet, some relaxing. It was very, very nice.

Now we dive back into our summer routine. The girls are helping at the Library. I have a meeting to attend there this week. We have an end of season soccer party to enjoy. We all have books to read. Lots of lazy, hazy, summer days ahead.
