tournament

The boy's speech team hosts its speech tournament on Valentine's Day. So, what will hubby and I be doing that day? I'll be judging and he will be tabulating. Yep. We had our third organizational meeting last night and about 35 parents came. Great turnout. Lots of hands on deck, as they say. Should be good!

We've worked hard to partner with local restaurants, stores, etc to obtain donations. This is a fundraiser for us, but it is also a huge learning experience as we've never done this before. The tournament was canceled last year due to bad weather.

In other news, what about Harper Lee's new book? Or is it an old book? The original book? Not sure what to call it, but however we categorize it, the novel is coming out in July. Will probably be the hottest thing this summer!

Prediction, a new host of kids named "Scout."

Off we go...we're walking today!

short week

It's going to be a short week. Yeah!

The boy and I have Good Friday off. The girls will be home from school to enjoy Easter weekend with us. Looks like hubby's sister and her hubby will drive down for the weekend. So, I've already started to figure out what we are eating and when. Let the procurement begin!

Had a nice weekend. Managed to get quite a few things done while the hubby and the boy were over in Nashville for the speech and debate state championships. The boy did really well! He had never competed in the Congress category before, but he was a finalist in the Senate portion!! His coach and his former coach were thrilled with his results. Several of our seniors earned first places in their competitions. So, all in all, I think we had 7 of the 18 students earn recognition.

Hubby was also able to meet the teacher the boy 'works' for as an assistant during his study hall period. She supervised the learning lab and he works as a tutor. She was very complimentary of him and said she is hoping she can have him back as her helper next year!

Always good to hear nice things about your children.

We have two final things to do for the speech team: vote in next year's officers and attend the banquet. Then the plans for next year will begin!

Okay, off we go. Lots to do in the next 4 days. Better start making my list. Enjoy Monday.

way to go

The boy's speech team chalked up their 100th first place win at this past Saturday's tournament. That is a great thing, but what we are so happy about is that he seems to be truly enjoying being involved with this program. The trophy and the medal he brought home are secondary to that.

He had to wear his suit to school yesterday for club/team picture day. He said he was asked a lot if he was going to a funeral, but he also got a lot of compliments on how nice he looked.

Fun stuff. Three tournaments are scheduled for November, busy month! And then we host our own tournament in December.

So, Way To Go, CHS Speech and Debate team!

suits

The youngest has acquired his first suit. Just like we had to provide equipment for the girls when they were getting ready to do battle on the pitch, we had to outfit the boy for his first appearance on the stage. On Saturday the forensics team travels to another small town for their first tournament of the season.

It took three tries for the store to get the tailoring right, but the manager made it right in the end and even through in a free bow tie for our trouble.

Of course hubby realized he needed a new suit, or two, while sorting out the boy's suit problems. He was actually a very savvy shopper and got all three suits on clearance. Considering the hubby hadn't bought a suit in over 15 years, I guess he was due for a wardrobe upgrade.

Excited for this first tournament and how this new 'sport/competition' will work for all of us.

And parents are encouraged to learn how to judge! Think I will give that a whirl as well.

Wednesday!! Yeah!!
