crazy heart

I've written before about how much I love Netflix. I've watched some great shows and movies that I might not have seen without having this service. When I put "Crazy Heart" on my list, circumstances delivered it right before Christmas. With the hustle of the season, the disc sat on the kitchen counter for weeks. I finally watched the movie yesterday. Now I know why Jeff Bridges won an Oscar for his performance. This was a really good movie full of subtle and nuanced acting.  In many ways it was a quiet movie. The action was limited, but the driving force, the characters were intense, sympathetic and interesting.  What a mix of actors too, Robert Duvall, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell and of course, Bridges.

Good Stuff.

Needless to say, I didn't read my book yesterday. I enjoyed the movie, made a big pot of potato soup and stayed warm.

Up for today is my normal Friends/Library routine plus I need to buy an ink cartridge for the printer. Woot:)

the joy of netflix

Netflix is my guilty pleasure. It streams right to my TV through our Wii system. I also get movies in the mail from them. Yesterday, after I ran more errands than I had planned on running, I sat down to fold laundry and watch a movie called 'Winter's Bone.'  This film won the Grand Jury award at a recent Sundance Festival and was on some movie critic's list last year. I took note of it, added it to my Netflix queue and waited. It was worth the wait. Good flick. Subtle, intense, heartbreaking, interesting. Really well done.

On the other end of the spectrum, we've been watching 30 Rock, from the beginning, episode after episode. Definitely not subtle, but laugh out loud funny. Tina Fey is a genius and when you watch this show, it is pretty darn obvious why it swept the Emmy's year after year.

Not sure what I will watch today, or if I will watch anything, but Happy Tuesday!!

argh, oh....okay

I've been sucked into the world of the Showtime drama, The Tudors, via the online version of Netflix. I watched the first two seasons on my laptop and was all set to start season three, indulge myself in a small bowl of popcorn and see what Henry was up to now that Anne Boleyn was out of the way. Then I realized that season three isn't available to watch online, I have to send for the DVDs. Arghhhhh. I have become totally spoiled with the instant viewing feature and don't relish the idea of having to wait days in between episodes. So, I started looking through the instant viewing lists and found a TV show I had wanted to watch years ago and never was around at the right time to do so.

I played the first episode of The Dresden Files. Now, I have read these books by Jim Butcher and heartily enjoy Harry Dresden and his wizarding world. The first episode was decent and I will most likely finish watching all the episodes that are available on Netflix.

And I will probably cave and order up the four discs for season three of The Tudors.

In the meantime, I'm on a mission to finish "The Endless Forest" by Sara Donati. Then it is on to the latest from Bernard Cornwell. The books are due back in a just a few days and I want to get them done. I guess I will have to return, unread, "The Swan Thief" and check it out again later. Just not enough free time to get that one read before the due date.

Had a lovely lunch yesterday with my friends. Everything tasted good, but then good conversation is an excellent seasoning.

Sunny skies ahead:) Enjoy the day.
