don't. like. surprises.

I've always lived under this misconception that I'd enjoy a surprise birthday party. I'm not sure why I entertain that fantasy as I really don't like surprises. I'm too much of a planner to enjoy the whole unexpected, out of the blue experience.  Yesterday, just as I was about to leave, my expectation that the board meeting today would involve my sitting and taking notes while everyone else talked was, well, shattered.

I will be assisting someone I've never met in a presentation on the online learning library and the new courses developed and planned. Now, this is the work I've been doing for the past two months, but I didn't plan on being an integral part of the agenda item.

Okay. I know I will be fine. I can handle this and not make a fool of myself.....but, again, I don't like surprises. It is going to be an interesting day. I'm rather excited to meet these folks and put faces to names. And I suspect that dinner tonight will be a hoot.

In other news, it is now time to start recruiting a new bookstore manager. This, I fear, will be a monumental task for the current manager. I've offered some suggestions, and my assistance, but bottom line is, I'm not sure who will step up and take the reins. The novelty has worn off for those of us who have labored countless hours for the store over the past 4 years. It is now work, fun work, but still work.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the search goes well and a new manager is in waiting in the wings before July is out.

odd feeling

Even though I am officially finished with my bookstore duties, one of my very faithful volunteers asked me to help her move the 'cherry picked' donations from last week out of the store and into the stocking closet. I showed up at 9 and we were able to finish the work by 10:30. A lot more than what is needed was pulled from the sale to be kept for stocking the store. We needed romance paperbacks, but the rest is just extra stuff that is nice, but the nonfiction bins are so full it means a big inventory swap is in their futures.

It was odd walking away from the library and to the car yesterday knowing that I'm not responsible for that endeavor any more. It really hit me.

Then, of course, I got home and the emails were flying about the money we brought in and how it should be allocated. Looks like Wednesday's meeting will be an interesting one. Think I will need to bring a calculator along, we have some number crunching to do.

Today I need to clean house and finish reading "The Magicians" so I can return that book to the library.

a new week

Today I'm back at the library to accomplish two tasks. We have to move all the store inventory from the store and put it back into the stocking closet. We had to empty that closet so we could use the space for the sale. I hope it doesn't take more than a couple of hours. I also have to get ready for a Leadership C'ville event at the Chamber of Commerce. I'm going to be on hand for their Altruism Day as a representative from our Library Friends group. Two very busy days back to back to start the week.

I finished Karen Chance's "Embrace the Night" over the weekend. What a rollercoaster of a read. I'm not even going to attempt to recap the book, you have to read the first two in that series to even begin to understand the twists and turns she throws at the reader in this one. Cassie, Mircea and Pritkin are all back and there is plenty of action and quite a bit of time traveling as Cassie begins to start embracing her role as the Pythia. The back of the book contains a chapter from Chance's next novel, really tweaked my interest and I will be searching for that one next.

Soccer after school every night this week, even Friday night, as both girls are getting ready for tournaments on the weekend. One kid is traveling and one is staying put.

Going to be a busy week.
